Not much planned today, just kind of working through my OSCE skills, as the practical final is tomorrow.
I am covering, among other things:
- perineal care
- musculoskeletal assessments of the hand/wrist, shoulders, hips, knees, ankle/foot
- Blood pressure
- Pulse, respirations and O2 sat
- unoccupied bed making
- hot/cold therapy, including COLDSPA pain assessment
- abdominal assessment
- positioning
- and a few others I can't bring to mind right now.
The way the test works: You show up with your lab partner 10 mins before your 10 min time slot, and register. During this time, you and your partner each draw a skill out of a mixed bundle at random. Then, you have 5 mins to review a quick checklist, and you perform the skill as if you are in a hospital with a client. Your partner acts as your client.
These tests are either pass/fail, and there is no grading. So it's basically - ALL OR NOTHING. :/
Ive got about half of the skills down pat without a doubt, but the other half always leaves me with room to worry. Lets hope tomorrow will be a good day and I get something super easy like positioning.
