Today, we focused on the aspects of wine, liqour and beer. I just learnt all this COOL STUFF that I totally wanted to share with you guys...especially because I love my wine, but I realized that I did not even know a thing about it!
Cool facts:
- White wine only includes the flesh of the grape
- Red wine includes the stem, seeds and skin of the grape
-Because of this, red wines have stronger tannins and the "puckering factor", or finish is how long you can taste it after you swallow the wine. - The kind of wine is dependent on the varietal of grape... so ex] Pinot Noirs, no matter what brand, come from a specific type of grape..but what alters the taste is the factors that the winery/vineyard have taken into account to grow the grape. So, things like altitude, weather, region, soil, climate and types of pest control could potentially be factors.
- Champagne is the SAME THING as Sparkling Wine. There is some crazy wine law that says it is illegal to call any bottled sparkling wine champagne unless it comes from the vineyard region of Champagne, France. So same ingredients, same process, just different geography makes the bottle Ex-pens-ive. It's mostly a brand-name thing, and there are inexpensive champagnes that are bottled in less famous vineyards...but currently, a bottle of Crystal is retailed at $500, Dom Perignon at $200, and it's not much cheaper from there.
Have a HAPPY HOUR on me, folks! ;)
